McCrea's Candies Response to COVID-19 (Coronavirus)

To Our Valued Customers:

In this time of uncertainty, we want you to know that the safety and health of customers, suppliers and employees are always a top priority. Now more than ever, our business is you.

As a maker of slow-cooked, handcrafted caramel, we have always maintained the best and highest standards when it comes to food handling and safety.  The cleanliness of our kitchen has always been a top priority.

Because of COVID-19 (aka coronavirus) and how it is spread, we have added targeted procedures to mitigate potential exposure. In addition to our regular cleaning procedures, increased sanitization measures have been added.  We have implemented twice daily sanitizing procedures using recommended cleaning products and conforming to the policies set forth by OSHA and the CDC. We have also held multiple educational meetings to discuss procedures that will protect our employees both at work and at home. We are all working together to maintain the health and well-being of our collective communities.

Additionally, we are practicing safe social distancing and have decided to close our factory store to in-person purchases. Our award-winning caramel will still be available for sale online via our website and from our many retailers in your communities.

We are taking these steps as a precautionary measure to protect the health and well-being of our customers, partners and employees. It is our intent to remain transparent and we will continue to keep you informed as we monitor this ever-changing situation closely.

We are privileged to be your caramel of choice.  Thank you for being a loyal customer. We look forward to seeing you soon.

McCrea’s Candies Named Neponset Valley Chamber of Commerce 2018 Small Business of the Year

Candy Maker Recognized for Growth, Innovation and Social Responsibility

McCrea’s Candies has been named the Neponset Valley Chamber of Commerce (NVCC) 2018 Small Business of the Year. The award, bestowed annually, is given to the member company that best demonstrates outstanding achievement in general management, employee relations, business growth, product innovation, and community and social responsibility.

The award will be presented to McCrea’s Candies founders, Kate and Jason McCrea, on January 31at the NVCC Annual Awards Meeting, taking place at the Four Points Sheraton in Norwood, Mass.

“The selection committee was impressed by McCrea’s Candies continued growth and innovation,” said Thomas J. O’Rourke, CCE, president and CEO of the Chamber.  “In addition to being an inventive and growing manufacturing business, McCrea’s has made a strong commitment to local community involvement.  Not only with the Chamber, but with several other area organizations.  They are a great example of a company doing well by doing good.”

McCrea’s Candies has spent the last several years transforming itself from small neighborhood company into growing national brand, achieving numerous milestones along the way.  In 2018, McCrea’s produced over 32 tons of caramel, increased its staff to 15 full-time employees and expanded into more than 1,300 retail outlets throughout North America, more than double the number of stores that carried its products two years ago.  Additionally, the candy maker solidified deals with a number of well-known retailers, including The Grommet, Eataly, NewsLink, and Hudson News.

“We are honored to have been selected the Neponset Valley’s Small Business of the Year,” said Jason McCrea. “2018 was a pivotal year for our company.  The nomination is a testament to the people that make up the McCrea’s team, their passion, hard work and dedication, and showcases how, working together, a small business like ours can achieve great things.”

According to Kate McCrea, the McCrea’s team brings that same passion and commitment to McCrea’s role of responsible corporate citizen.  “We employ a ‘buy local’ policy whenever possible and have consciously created a product line fully made up of biodegradable packaging manufactured right here in the United States,” she said.   “Additionally, we are dedicated to volunteerism, supporting initiatives with the Neponset River Watershed Association, the Friends of the Westwood Library, and more.”

Award-Winning Caramel Maker Also Announces Two-Piece Pillow Pack for the Hospitality Industry

McCrea’s Candies has introduced two new products: a limited-edition holiday party box and a two-piece caramel pillow pack.  Both products will make their debut at the Fancy Food Show in Booth 6209 in the Massachusetts Pavilion.

McCrea’s has elegantly wrapped its bestselling party box for the holidays, adding scrollwork in a festive gilded design.  Available in two sizes: a Small 12-ounce, 40-piece version and a Large 24-ounce, 80-piece version, the boxes are filled with four flavors of the company’s handcrafted, slow-cooked caramel, including Black Lava Sea Salt, Classic Vanilla, Deep Chocolate and Tapped Maple.

“Both the holiday box and our new smaller pillow pack were developed with our customers in mind,” said Kate McCrea, the company’s Chief Caramel Visionary.  “As a maker of fine caramel for the gifting market, we know that the yule season necessitates extra special packaging for presenting gifts to loved ones, friends and work colleagues.

According to McCrea, the company’s new two-piece pillow pack received the same attention to detail. “We have received a number of requests for a smaller packaging option, one that would be a fit for the hospitality marketplace.  We’re keeping our sophisticated look and feel, yet scaling down size for hotels, airlines and coffeeshops.”

McCrea’s Candies uses the finest salts, spirits, and seasonings to produce handcrafted, slow-cooked caramel candies in biodegradable packaging. The company starts with the butter and sugar and slow cooks it to just the right temperature. Milk from the local dairy is added as are real-food flavorings.  From there, McCrea’s handrolls the caramel and sends it through a restored early 20th century cutting and wrapping machine. McCrea’s quest: find perfect combinations of smooth, sweet, fresh, and unexpected using the fewest possible ingredients. Its mission: make the world's best caramel.

McCrea’s Candies Adds New Flavor and Introduces Soirée-Sized Party Box

Award-Winning Caramel Maker Also Announces

Dedicated Business Gifting Initiative

June 24, 2017 -- McCrea’s Candies today introduced an Anisette caramel to its line of award-winning, handcrafted luxe candies, as well as a new soirée-sized party box perfect for intimate gatherings and smaller get togethers.  Additionally, the company announced an expanded focus on the business gifting marketplace with a newly-appointed Caramel Concierge.

Anisette joins McCrea’s fourteen other evocatively-flavored caramels and rounds out the assortment of liquor-infused sweet treats offered by the Boston-based caramel maker, which also includes Single Malt Scotch and Irish Coffee.  The new flavor is delicately spirited with notes of anisette, giving the caramel an aromatic and distinctive bite.

“When we decided to add a new flavor, it seemed natural to expand our spirited offerings with Anisette,“ said Co-Founder Jason McCrea.  “We’ve perfected the caramel so that it provides the perfect balance of spicy and sweet.  It’s luxuriously smooth with just the right amount of licorice.”

The Anisette caramel is joined by a new soirée-sized Party Box.  Weighing 12 ounces and filled with approximately 10 pieces each of four caramel flavors, the smaller box is half the size of the company’s best-selling Party Box, making it ideal for family functions, cozy celebrations, and office parties.

“We are debuting the new smaller box with our customers in mind.  As a maker of fine caramel that is often chosen by our customers as a gift for family and friends, and by all sizes of companies for their business gifting needs, it’s important to create options that fit every occasion.” said Kate McCrea, cofounder of McCrea’s Candies.

It is that same dedication to the customer that prompted McCrea’s to expand its focus on the business gifting market. McCrea’s hired Caramel Concierge, Julie Ayotte, to lead the initiative.  Fresh from seven years at Dancing Deer Baking Co., where she headed the company’s corporate gift program, Ayotte brings 25 years of experience in the hospitality and gifting space.  She will focus on corporate clients, assisting them with holiday gifts, incentive and reward programs, thank you/referral gifts, and prospecting campaigns.
